We host school groups, care organizations, and other youth groups in a beautiful natural environment where we facilitate educational interactions with our herd of happy horses. Sessions are adapted for the specific age of the target audience.
In our equine facilitated coaching sessions, participants will learn how to work with a horse on the ground to develop a connection and build a strong relationship with the horse. During the sessions, we will show participants how to do the exercises, which they then try themselves with our guidance, while also getting feedback from the horse. These groundwork exercises teach participants how to communicate with a horse effectively using their body language, movement, and energy — which is how horses naturally communicate with each other and is therefore a language that the horse understands. These exercises not only strengthen the horse-human connection but also help boost the participant’s self-confidence and self-esteem.
Horses are prey animals who seek safety in a herd environment and follow the instructions of the herd leader as they know it is essential for their survival. Horses are acutely aware of what is going on around them and live in the present moment. In the horse-human partnership, the human fills the role of the herd leader. But to be an effective leader, the human has to earn the trust and respect of the horse by showing that he or she is a capable leader that will protect the horse from predators and other potential dangers. This also means the human must be present and focus on the job at hand — keeping his equine partner safe. Once the horse trusts his human leader he will willingly follow his commands. By building a solid connection with the horse, participants learn useful horsemanship skills; the horse teacher gives instant feedback on the effectiveness of their communication, and they become more self-confident when they get the desired response from their equine partner.
Developing a trusting partnership with a horse is an extremely rewarding and empowering experience and is particularly beneficial for those who lack confidence or relationship-building skills. As the work requires the participants to be mentally present and to focus on the horse, it will also benefit those who lack concentration, have learning challenges, or suffer mental health issues.
Our equine facilitated coaching sessions can benefit children and young people with the following disorders/issues:
